Abstract:<p>Tidal channel networks control tide propagation and, therefore, fluxes of water, sediment, nutrients, and particulate matter in wetlands and low-lying coastal areas. Furthermore, tightly linked wetland-channel systems deliver multiple ecosystem services, among which blue carbon sequestration is critically important. While carbon fluxes associated with both vertical and lateral dynamics of salt marshes have been extensively studied, the role of tidal channel abandonment still needs to be furthe… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
