The sea level in the area of the Japanese Islands was 2 -6 m higher than the modern level (Fujii & Fuji 1967, Sakaguchi 1983, Umitsu 1991Mikishin & Gvozdeva 1996, Hwang 1998, Korotkii et al 1996, Markov et al 2008. Therefore, large areas of coastal lowlands were submerged by sea water.…”
