SeDuCe: a Testbed for Research on Thermal and Power Management in Datacenters

Abstract: With the advent of Cloud Computing, the size of datacenters is ever increasing and the management of servers and their power consumption and heat production have become challenges. The management of the heat produced by servers has been experimentally less explored than the management of their power consumption. It can be partly explained by the lack of a public testbed that provides reliable access to both thermal and power metrics of server rooms. In this paper we propose SeDuCe, a testbed that targets resea… Show more

“…To compare the performances of the NEARDEADLINE algorithm, we have conducted expriments on a real infrastructure. Those experiments were performed on the Seduce platform [20], a scientific testbed integrated to Grid'5000, that monitor the electrical consumption of the nodes described in Table II. This evaluation section shows comparisons between NEARDEADLINE, NEARDEADLINERATIO, HEFT [5], and HEFT DEADLINE [9].…”

“…The CCS leverages "Schneider Electric IN-ROW" rack system which creates an airtight environment for the nodes. It is connected to a dedicated management network that enables remote cooling and control [16]. The temperature outside the cluster group is regulated by a secondary cooling system (SCS), which is tasked to maintain a constant temperature in the server room.…”

“…This approach can diminish the impact of the position and direction of the cameras. Pastor and Menaud [39] proposed a testbed, namely, SeDuCe, which provides public access to power consumption and thermal dissipation data of 48 servers combined in Grid'5000. It targets research on power and thermal management of servers.…”

“…It targets research on power and thermal management of servers. The authors pointed out the limitation of the proposed testbed, such as the DS18B20 sensor's lack of reactivity and the temperature sensor's limitation if sudden temperature changes occur [39] .…”
