The article presents results of the study of flora of the reservoirs in the eastern part of the Dnieper-Donetsk basin. An annotated list of flora was compiled on the base of personal field research, analysis of herbarium materials, and available literature data. The annotated list provides information on the herbarium specimens, species distribution in the study region, its general geographic distribution, habitat ecology, conservation status, life form, economic significance, and known literature references in the study region. It is established that the flora of water bodies of the area in question includes at least 61 species of higher aquatic vascular plants. The family Potamogetonaceae is the most species-rich (18 species, about 30% of the total aquatic flora of the region). The most species-rich genus is Potamogeton (16 species); other taxa are represented by a small number of species. A dominant life form is a group of submerged rooted aerohydatophytes, which numbers 28 species (45.9% of the total flora); the rooted aerohydatophytes with leaves floating on the water surface account for 12 species (19.6%). In terms of geographical distribution, the most abundant is the species group with a circumpolar type of area (28 species). Fourteen species have Eurasian ranges. Other area types are represented by a small number of species. The aquatic flora of the eastern part of the Dnieper-Donetsk basin has a high sozological value. Twenty-six species (42.6% of the flora) have conservation status. The Red Book of Ukraine includes six species, viz. Aldrovanda vesiculosa L., Utricularia intermedia Hayne, U. minor L., Salvinia natans (L.) All., Trapa natans L., and Nymphoides peltate (S.G. Gmel.) Kuntze. Three of them are listed in Annex I of the Berne Convention, and the other three are tertiary relics. Three species are included in the European Red List of Vascular Plants. The list of rare, endangered, typical, and in need of special protection plant groups (Green Book…., 2009) includes 14 aquatic assemblages. Recently, against the background of a general decrease in autochthonous floristic diversity, new invasive species have appeared in the region, behaving aggressively towards the native flora: Pistia stratiotes L. and Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms.

Results of the conducted botanical surveys in the Forest-Steppe part of Zhytomyr Region are provided. Nine alien taxa (mainly xenophytes) new for the flora of the Right Bank Forest-Steppe have been identified: Allium altissimum, Amaranthus deflexus, Aphanes arvensis, Artemisia umbrosa, Crataegus sanguinea, Epilobium pseudorubescens, Erigeron strigosus, Polygonum calcatum, and Silene coronaria. Localities of these species are described and botanical-geographical comments are provided for most of taxa. There are also 64 taxa newly reported for the Forest-Steppe part of Zhytomyr Region, of which 31 are native plants, 32 – alien plants, and 1 species of unidentified origin. Twelve taxa are rare and protected at different levels. Invasive plants in need of monitoring are identified among newly reported species. According to the new data, flora of the Forest-Steppe part of Zhytomyr Region includes more than 1320 taxa of vascular plants. An important result was the discovery at the border of Zhytomyr Polissya and the Right Bank Forest-Steppe of localities of five expanding species of the genus Rubus with predominantly Central European ranges: R. bertramii, R. gracilis, R. hirtus, R. montanus, and R. plicatus. Expansion of these species of blackberries in the eastern direction within the territory of Northern Ukraine is associated with natural migration and is probably caused by the gradual climate warming.

The geographical distribution, ecological and coenotic features of the place of growth and age structure of Ornithogalum boucheanum populations in Ukraine have been studied. In total, during the entire period of floristic research in Ukraine, 263 native sites of this species were recorded in 13 administrative regions (oblasts). Mostly these sites are concentrated in the Steppe zone, where the main part of the Eastern European fragment of the general natural range of O. boucheanum is represented. For other regions of Ukraine isolated reports of the species are known. It is noted that in addition to reduction in the number of natural habitats of O. boucheanum within the Forest-Steppe and in the southern part of Ukraine Polissya, a secondary adventive natural habitat of the species is formed, where it is part of the immigration group of foreign taxa. It was found that the natural habitats of O. boucheanum are characterized by a certain stenotopy, as the species needs some moisture and is more common in valley and balka landscapes most often in large river basins, which are not prone to drying out and can be favourable ecological corridors for long-distance migration. Favourable conditions for O. boucheanum habitats exist in floodplain and riparian forests, which have sufficient moisture, little competition from other species of grass and a sufficient amount of light in the spring. In addition, O. boucheanum can successfully master artificial and synanthropic groups of tree species, in particular being widespread in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe Robinia plantations. It was found that populations of O. boucheanum in Ukraine have different numbers: with an area of 4–6 hectares, in which there are tens and hundreds of thousands of individuals, to small populations on the northern border of distribution, in Kirovohrad and Kharkiv oblasts, which have a of young invasive character. It is possible that modern conditions have been favourable for the spread of O. boucheanum in the transition zone between the Forest-Steppe and Steppe, and that the process of forming new populations of O. boucheanum is taking place here.
