“…During seed maturation, K concentrations in seeds decline significantly, which is paralleled by a huge assimilate transport from maternal plants to maturing seeds, which results in intensive seed‐mass growth. Zerche & Ewald (2005) also found that seed germination increased with decreasing seed K concentrations, making seed potassium a possible seed maturity indicator. At 8 weeks post anthesis, K concentrations in seeds varied between 200 and 300 µmol kg −1 DM, whereas in mature seeds K concentrations had declined to 150–200 µmol kg −1 DM.…”
