Seed Production and Control of Sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia) and Pitted Morningglory (Ipomoea lacunosa) with 2,4-D, Dicamba, and Glyphosate Combinations

Abstract: Sicklepod and pitted morningglory are two of the most important weed species in row-crop production in the southeastern United States. The upcoming introduction of soybean and cotton varieties resistant to 2,4-D and dicamba will increase the reliance on these auxinic herbicides. However, it is not clear how these herbicides will affect sicklepod and pitted morningglory control. Field experiments were conducted in 2013 and 2014 in Jay, FL to determine whether 2,4-D (560 and 1,120 g ae ha−1), dicamba (420 and 84… Show more

“…Dicamba alone and glyphosate alone treatments were not significantly different; however, pared to 45% to 77% when each was applied separately [32]. Synergism was observed when glufosinate was tank mixed with dicamba because the control observed with the tank mixture treatment was greater than the control observed from the glufosinate alone and dicamba alone treatments.…”

“…Combinations of glyphosate with 2,4-D and dicamba are commonly used for commercial weed management for control of a broad range of weed species and as a practice for mitigating weed resistance to herbicides (Leon et al 2016; Norsworthy et al 2012; Robinson et al 2012). The addition of glyphosate to halauxifen-methyl, dicamba, and 2,4-D was included to investigate the value of the common tank mixture when the target weed population contains GR biotypes.…”

“…Senna obtusifolia (Sicklepod) and Xanthium strumarium (common cocklebur) are two of the most important weeds species in row cropping systems of the mid-and southeastern United States (US) [1,2] as they have the potential to become major weeds of many crops, including soybean, cotton, and maize in short time periods [3]. In addition, these species can invade and dominate pastures, roadsides, fence lines, creek banks, and other disturbed areas [4].…”
