Seismic Analysis of Tall Structures

Abstract: Nowadays, tall structures have turned out to be a great engineering wonder. From past earthquakes information, it is demonstrated that a significant number of structures are harmed or destroyed due to earthquakes, therefore, it becomes necessary to decide and analyze seismic reactions over the structure. Earthquake can cause huge destructive to the structure. There is a need of seismic study and planning to protect the structure from earthquake. The analysis of the structures is to determine the deformations a… Show more

“…The above graph and table shows the maximum displacement in X and Z direction ,here we can notice that the maximum displacement in z direction is more than of x direction .the comparison has been seen clearly that after applying bracing the maximum storey displacement is reducing gradually . As we go up to the maximum height the displacement values increases because of the lateral loading cases occurred due to earthquake where in x direction the maximum top storey displacement is 12.1278 cm and it is reduced to 9.8743 cm for diagonal bracing and 9.1842 cm for x-bracing whereas same reduction has been seen in z direction, where max top storey displacement is 20.1309 cm and after applying braces it is reduced to 12.307 and 11.6682 cm respectively [13]. The above graph and table shows the maximum storey drift in both x and z direction at specific storey height .…”

“…But nowadays these factors have become the leading cause for structural collapse. [13] Also, keeping in mind the rapid growth of population it is not possible to build structure on every inch of land and keep cutting the trees and forests available so tall structures is the only possible way in order to optimize the land area available for construction, but those structures should be constructed as per the seismic demands, so that the structure can sustain all the different types of loads that will be act on it after completion. Another possible way to provide lateral strength to a structure is by applying bracings.…”
