“…To evaluate the accurate dynamic response of the superstructure it is needed to consider the substructure system and the soil supporting structure in the soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis. Due to the lack of detailed guidelines in the local design codes, overlooking or incorporating the subterranean levels in the seismic resistance design of building structures is still a controversial issue [1][2]. When a building rests on a shallow foundation and is subjected to lateral seismic loads, it is reasonable to crop the superstructure and analyze it as a fixed base structure at ground level with free-field ground motion excitation since free-field motion is approximately equal to foundation input motion.…”

“…The SSI characteristics of structures supported by shallow and deep foundations have received the majority of researcher's attention in the last few decades. However, fewer studies [2] have been presented in the literature on buildings with subterranean levels that incorporate seismic SSI utilizing an experimental and simplified three-step method (substructure approach). In the analysis of the seismic SSI response of any particular problem, numerical techniques are highly capable of incorporating different combinations of effects and nonlinearity resulting from material behaviour and changes in geometry, material nonhomogeneous properties, soil-structure interface conditions, radiation and material damping changes, as well as strong ground motion [3].…”

“…The stability of the retaining wall is obtained mainly from the self-weight of the structure and the weight of the soil above the foundation plate. The magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the retaining wall depend on the movement of the soil relative to the wall (Tadesse et al, 2022).…”
