Abstract:Immediate reconstruction of full-thickness skin defects after micrographic surgical removal of facial skin cancers is a commonly accepted principle. Healing by secondary intention on the face is controversial. Considering both the literature and our own experience, we offer indications and contraindications for this approach, tailored to the various facial anatomic units. Secondary wound healing is a safe, effective and cost-saving alternative to surgical reconstruction in selected areas.
