Seleção de isolados de Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. e Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok. contra o cascudinho Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Abstract: Selection ofconidia/ml). Vegetative growth on culture media and sporulation on culture media, cooked rice and lesser mealworm cadavers were also evaluated. Isolates of B. bassiana were more effective than the M. anisopliae isolates and larvae were more susceptible than adults. The isolates UNIOESTE 04 and UNIOESTE 02 were originally obtained from adults of the lesser mealworm and were the most efficient isolates. In addition, UNIOESTE 04 showed high level of sporulation on different culture media and is consid… Show more

“…This entomopathogenic fungus occurs naturally in poultry houses (Steinkraus et al, 1991;Alves et al, 2005) and presents great potential for pest control (Oliveira et al, 2014). Moreover, this fungus has been shown to be effective both under laboratory conditions (Alexandre et al, 2006;Rohde et al, 2006;Alves et al, 2008) and in field assays (Alves et al, in press).…”

“…The B. bassiana Unioeste 4 isolate of the entomopathogenic fungi collection of the Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology of the State University of West Paraná (Unioeste) was used because it exhibits a high virulence against both larval and adult lesser mealworms (Rohde et al, 2006). The fungus was grown in sporulation medium (SM) (20 g agar, 5 g yeast extract, 4.6 g salt mixture, 10 g glucose and 1000 mL distilled water) (Alves et al, 1998b) and incubated for seven days at 26±2°C under a 12 h photoperiod until conidiogenesis, and stored at -10 ºC.…”

“…Plates were incubated for 7 days at 26 ± 1 °C and 12-h photoperiod. Conidia were collected and the suspensions were prepared (1 × 10 8 conidia/mL) in a glass tube according to Rohde et al, (2006). Adults of the lesser meal worm were immersed in the suspensions and, after manual stirring for 1 minute, were transferred to Petri dishes to remove fluid excess and transferred to other Petri dishes containing poultry feed.…”

“…However, many natural enemies of the lesser mealworm are found in poultry houses, including predators and entomopathogenic fungi (Alves et al, 2004;Santoro et al, 2010). The potential of such fungi for lesser mealworm control was demonstrated both under laboratory and field conditions (Geden et al, 1998;Rohde et al, 2006, Chernaki et al, 2007. In addition, it is safe for poultry (Hass et al, 2010).…”
