Selectable output of solitons and self-accelerating pulses via spectral phase modulation and filtering of Airyprime pulses

Abstract

Generating self-accelerating pulses and solitons simultaneously is often challenging since nonlinearities tend to disrupt the self-accelerating structure of the pulses. The linear and nonlinear propagation of the Airyprime pulse with spectral quadratic phase modulation (QPM) is investigated. For the linear case, the QPM cancels or superimposes with the group velocity dispersion, depending on whether the two are of the same or opposite sign. For the case of nonlinear propagation, the high-frequency and low-frequency components of the Airyprime pulse show different propagation states and are independent of each other. Thus, simultaneous output of soliton and self-accelerating pulses (SAPs) can be achieved with the selection of suitable QPM parameters. Moreover, one of the two outputs can be selected by filtering half of the spectrum. The QPM parameter can effectively regulate the soliton emission angle and the propagation distance required for the SAP reformation. We believe that it will not only deepen the study of nonlinear dynamics of Airyprime pulses but also provide new ideas for soliton and SAP generation.
