“…It should be noted that the thickness of as-synthesized nanoplatelets of 1 to 2 μm in diameter is usually ∼55 nm. 26 Because Bi 2 Te 3 /IL interfaces were ubiquitous in this sonicated Bi 2 Te 3 /IL sample, as evidenced by the increase in the UV−vis response, and the thicknesses were clearly reduced, we conclude that a significant amount of exfoliation had occurred within the [C 4 mim]Cl solvent. To further test the nanosheet dispersion stability, the sonicated sample was observed by UV−vis absorption over the course of 30 days, as presented in Figure 3d.…”

“…In the case of Bi 2 Te 3 on the other hand, it was shown that water adsorption is less pronounced than the adsorption of oxygen 26,36 , even though the reactivity of water with Bi 2 Te 3 is still under debate 26,27,37 . Except for the influence of adsorbates on the electronic structure, chemistry on TI surfaces has been largely ignored, even though it was shown that TIs hold great potential for sensing applications 38,39 and exfoliation in liquid environment has been used to obtain nanosheets with unique properties [40][41][42] . With respect to catalysis, the existence of TSS can modify the catalyst-adsorbate interactions 43 , e.g.…”

“…In addition, the atom layers of Bi 2 Te 3 and similar compounds have a -Te(1)-Bi(Sb)-Te(2)-Bi(Sb)-Te(1) structure. 6,35 Here, Te has two different coordination environments in the crystal structure. The two adjacent Te(1) layers along the c-axis interact with each other by van der Waals forces, which is not strong enough to fix an atom on the smooth surface.…”
