Selective, Efficient and Gram‐Scale Oxidation of Alcohols Using Household Bleach in the Presence of Fe3O4@Boehmite‐NH2‐CoII Nanoparticles

Abstract: A new magnetic nanostructured core–shell‐like Fe3O4@Boehmite‐NH2‐CoII NPs as an environmentally friendly heterogeneous catalyst reported earlier by our group, has been found to be very effective for the oxidation of alcohols in aqueous media using household bleach at room temperature. The method has been applied for the oxidation of a range of primary and secondary benzylic, allylic and aliphatic alcohols with variable functionalities in excellent yields and selectivity. An aqueous medium, magnetic separation … Show more

“…[ 24,29 ] Because of its low cost, affordable, and stable boehmite, it has been considered as appropriate support, and researchers have used it in their research works. [ 5,30–36 ] Boehmite (γ‐AlOOH) is a metastable phase of alumina that has free AlOH in the surface of nanoparticles. [ 37,38 ] For loading metal ions, these free AlOH groups on the surface of solid support can be used for ligand connection.…”

“…In continuation of our studies on the synthesis and application of magnetic nanostructured catalysts and to develop a new synthetic methodology for the preparation of 1 H ‐pyrazolo[1,2‐b]phthalazine‐5,10‐diones via one‐pot multicomponent reactions (MCRs), Cu II anchored onto the magnetic talc (γ‐Fe 2 O 3 / talc/Cu II NPs) as a magnetically heterogeneous nanocatalyst from commercially available chemicals in multiple steps was prepared. (Scheme ) The method consists of the reaction between a mixed salt‐solution of ferrous and ferric ions and NaOH in the presence of talc powder ( I ) as promising supporting material for catalysts in organic reactions.…”

“…The production of corresponding carbonyl compounds in oxidation reaction are useful starting materials in chemical synthesis because of their ability to easily react with nucleophiles . Various methods have been designed to oxidation of alcohols using different inorganic oxidants such as ammonium permanganate, pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC), chromium trioxide, pyridinium dichromate (PDC), tert‐butyl hydroperoxide, KMnO 4 , ClO 2 , H 5 IO 6 and NaClO . However, some of these oxidants are toxic, expensive, hazardous, and corrosive.…”

“…[2] Various methods have been designed to oxidation of alcohols using different inorganic oxidants such as ammonium permanganate, [3] pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC), [4] chromium trioxide, [5] pyridinium dichromate (PDC), [6] tert-butyl hydroperoxide, [7] KMnO 4 , [8] ClO 2 , [9] H 5 IO 6 [10] and NaClO. [11] However, some of these oxidants are toxic, expensive, hazardous, and corrosive. Among the oxidants, molecular O 2 and aqueous H 2 O 2 have attracted more and more attention owing to economic and environmental concerns.…”
