Selective Harmonic Elimination Based on Newton-raphson Method for Cascaded H-bridge Multilevel Inverter

Abstract: Multilevel inverters are emerging as the new breed of power converter options for high power applications. They typically synthesis the staircase voltage waveform (from several dc sources) which reduced harmonic content. This paper presents a simple selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation for single-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter. The optimum switching angle of the transcendental equations describing the fundamental and harmonic components is solved by means of the NewtonRaphson (NR)… Show more

“…Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is a measure of the effective value of the harmonic components of a distorted waveform and it is commonly used for a quick measure of distortion [581]. THD implementations in FPGA have the highest PDLY in this category (43% of documents in the last three years) and these have been implemented in FPGAs for multilevel inverters [582][583][584][585], AC (Alternating Current) LED (Light-Emitting Diode) drivers [586][587][588][589]. Interpolation with FPGAs have been used for video scaling [590][591][592] and motion estimator for High Efficient Video Coding (HEVC) encoder [593][594][595].…”

“…The objective of this paper is to calculate the optimum switching angles 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 for an 11 level inverter having equal voltage sources i.e. V 1= V 2= V 3= V 4= V 5= V 5 = cos 1 + cos 2 + cos 3 + cos 4 + cos 5 0 = cos 5 1 + cos 5 2 + cos 5 3 + cos5 4 + cos5 5 0 = cos 7 1 + cos 7 2 + cos 7 3 + cos7 4 + cos7 5 (2) 0 = cos 11 1 + cos 11 2 + cos 11 3 Again, the expression of THD=√(…”

“…The utility of a multilevel inverter (MLI). [3] It has a modular structure with simple switching method and occupies a lesser space. By connectingadequate number of H-bridges in cascade along with a properly choosen switching scheme, a nearly sinusoidal output voltage waveform can be obtained.…”

“…Symmetric Cascaded H-Bridge converter has been investigated with different types of modulation techniques, such as Space Vector Modulation (SVM) [12], Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) [7], [13], Selective Harmonic Mitigation (SHM) [14], and Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) [15], [16]. Among all, SPWM technique is simpler to be implementated [17].…”
