Selective Measurement of Gaseous Hydrogen Peroxide with Light Emitting Diode-Based Liquid-Core Waveguide Absorbance Detector

Abstract: Atmospheric H2O2 is typically determined by enzymatically mediated fluorogenic reactions that do not discriminate between H2O2 and organic peroxides. Reactions of Ti(IV) with H2O2 has also been the basis of colorimetric measurements of H2O2 but is too insensitive. A more sensitive determination is possible with the Ti(IV)-4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) complex, however, unreacted PAR must be chromatographically separated. A titanium(IV)-porphyrin complex, oxo [5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)porphyrinato]titanium… Show more

“…24 Owing to its large molar absorptivity, the Ti-TPyP reagent can detect even a picomole level of hydrogen peroxide. In the determination of hydrogen peroxide in various real samples using this reagent, inorganic ions, amino acids, and proteins, 2,3,25 and organic hydroperoxides 26 were actually found to cause no significant interferences on the analytical results. Therefore the reagent is characterized by a very high sensitivity and specificity for hydrogen peroxide.…”

“…Acetone reacts with salicylaldehyde in a concentrated NaOH medium to form a colored product-this has been used to measure breath acetone in FEP tube-based LCW cells (89). Similar measurements of gaseous H 2 O 2 have been made (90).…”

“…Therefore, high sensitivity is obtained using absorbance methods even though they employ small optical devices such as a light emitting diode (LED) and a photodiode (PD). The long gas collection/absorbance cell tube was applied to the analysis of NO 2 and O 3 [27], Cl 2 , H 2 S, NO 2 and CO 2 [28], HONO and NO 2 [29], H 2 O 2 [30], and O 3 [31].…”
