Selective Removal of N‐Heterocyclic Aromatic Contaminants from Fuels by Lewis Acidic Metal–Organic Frameworks

“…2(b) and (c)), and the adsorbed amounts (q t ) for BT were too small to obtain a reliable trend. This adsorption behavior complies with previously reported results that showed NCCs are preferentially adsorbed over SCCs [19,20,30,31,39]. This adsorption behavior is meaningful for industrial applications since removal of NCCs prior to the removal of SCCs is important.…”

“…Although, adsorptive removal of SCCs is quite common with these materials, there are only a few reports on ADN [6,11,29]. Moreover, NCCs can be removed easily compared with SCCs due to the selectiveness of the adsorption of NCCs over SCCs [19,20,30,31].…”

“…The channels of MIL- 101 were non-selective in this study as the kinetic diameter of thiophene and n-octane was 0.53 and 0.63 nm (Campelo et al, 1995;Contreras et al, 2008), respectively, therefore, it could be inferred that the channels acted as highways for mass transfer. The increase of selectivity was attributed to the preferential adsorption of MIL-101 towards thiophene (Maes et al, 2011). Although the adsorption ability of MIL-101 towards thiophene was relatively low when compared with other MOFs used in adsorptive desulfurization of gasoline, this ability was still contributive in this study because preferential adsorption and rapid desorption of thiophene were both significant in pervaporation process, and strong adsorption usually resulted in difficult desorption when the two processes occurred in identical operating condition.…”

“…A high affinity is desirable in purication applications to efficiently adsorb guests. 36 Compared to other co-solvents, CDPU shows the best adsorptive separation performance on CAc and CA in the 40% DMSO aqueous solution (v/v). Therefore, we chose this mixed solvent system as an excellent medium in the following adsorption experiments.…”
