Selective solid phase extraction of copper using a new Cu(II)-imprinted polymer and determination by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES)

Abstract: This work reports the preparation of a novel Cu(II)-ion imprinted polymer using 2-thiozylmethacrylamide (TMA) for on-line preconcentration of Cu(II) prior to its determination by inductively coupled optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Cu(II)-TMA monomer (complex) was synthesized and copolymerized via bulk polymerization method in the presence of ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate cross-linker. The resulting polymer was washed with 5% (v/v) HNO3 to remove Cu(II) ions and then with water until a neutral pH. The i… Show more

“…The main reasons are that operation and instrumentation are easy and simple, and many kinds of solvents and additives can be used for elution without considering their influences on analytical instruments. MISPE is often combined with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), 354 gas chromatography (GC), 355 capillary electrophoresis (CE), 356 UV-Vis spectrometry 357 and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) 358 for the determination of various analytes in environmental (river water, lake water, wastewater, seawater, groundwater, soil extracts, etc. ), food, medicinal plants and biological samples (serum, urine, blood, plasma, etc.…”

“…As expected, all of the polymers exhibited similar spectral profiles. The intense adsorption band at 1729 cm -1 was assigned to carbonyl groups from EGDMA [38], whereas the adsorption band of C=S was observed at 1393 cm -1 [39,40]. The absorption band at 1465 cm -1 can be assigned to N-C-N stretching vibration [39].…”
