Selectivity of acaricides to Neoseiulus barkeri (Hughes) (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

Daniel L. Silva,
Jayrla E. D. Lima,
Pedro V. L. Souza
et al.

Abstract: Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes has been used to control several pests, including the red palm mite, Raoiella indica Hirst. However, in some situations, the exclusive use of biocontrol agents is not sufficient to prevent the damage caused by pests. In these scenarios, the integration of chemical and biological controls is desired. For that purpose, the determination of selective acaricides, avoiding or reducing deleterious effects on the biological control agent is desirable. This study evaluated the lethal and subl… Show more

“…Azadirachtin is known for disrupting arthropod molting by interfering with ecdysone synthesis, resulting in extended developmental time and reduced reproductive capabilities (Mordue and Blackwell 1993;Biondi et al 2012Biondi et al , 2013. This aligns with our observation of high sensitivity of P. longipes eggs over the adult stage in this study and, consistently with findings from similar studies involving N. cucumeris and P. persimilis (Spollen and Isman 1996), N. californicus and P. macropilis (Bernardi et al 2013), and Neoseiulus barkeri (Athias-Henriot) (Silva et al 2023). Short-lived persistence of residual effect of azadirachtin has been reported on E. gallicus and Euseius stipulatus Athias-Henriot (Viggiani and Bernardo 2001;Put et al 2016).…”
