Selectivity of Iodosulfuron-Methyl to Oat Cultivars

Abstract: -Weeds are among the main constraints to high grain yield on hexaploid oat (Avena sativa), but there are few herbicides registered for weed control on this cereal crop. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the impact of the iodosulfuron-methyl on grain yield of elite oat cultivars and investigate the mechanism of oat tolerance to this herbicide. A field experiment conducted in 2012 demonstrated there was no difference on grain yield between cultivars URS Guará and URS Guria, when iodosulfuron-methyl w… Show more

“…A habilidade da planta em degradar herbicidas depende das condições ambientais preponderantes, que devem ser próximas às condições ótimas para o desenvolvimento da cultura (Queiroz et al, 2017), pois a seletividade desses produtos devido ao metabolismo diferencial requer aporte de energia celular (Carvalho et al, 2009), proveniente da fotossíntese. Assim, justifica o acréscimo dessa variável com a aplicação dos herbicidas.…”

“…Herbicide application causes crop toxicity and requires enzymatic metabolism for inactivation or hydroxylation of the herbicide molecules into non-toxic products before it reaches the site of action in the cell and causes damage to the plant. This herbicide inactivation is energetically costly, can compromise crop development and, consequently, reduce final productivity (Dias et al, 2017;Queiroz, et al, 2017;Rubenich et al, 2017).…”

“…The protective action of the mefenpyr-diethyl safener for the herbicides fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and iodosulfuronmethyl has been reported, resulting in significant improvements in the safety of its application in crops, such as white oats, wheat, rye, triticale, and barley (Hacker et al, 2000;Queiroz et al, 2017). In addition, according to Bianchi et al (2020), the use of mefenpyr-diethyl can stimulate action in wheat and soybean plants.…”
