Self-assembled cationic amphiphiles as antimicrobial peptides mimics: Role of hydrophobicity, linkage type, and assembly state

Abstract: Inspired by high promise using naturally occurring antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) to treat infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, cationic amphiphiles (CAms) were strategically designed as synthetic mimics to overcome associated limitations, including high manufacture cost and low metabolic stability. CAms with facially amphiphilic conformation were expected to demonstrate membrane-lytic properties and thus reduce tendency of resistance development. By systematically tuning the hydrophobicity, C… Show more

“…One of the hopeful techniques to combat bacterial resistance is the inclusion of cationic peptides as an option to conventional antibiotics [191]. The unique features of cationic peptides include their amphiphilic nature and their cationic charge, which facilitate targeting of negatively charged bacterial membrane leading to escape of intracellular contents and death [192].…”

“…The significance of the gamma value not only illustrates its importance and necessity, but also needs to master the two sets of color management spaces in the Maya mental ray rendering engine. They are the linear color space of gamma 1 and the srgb [4] space with gamma value of 2.2, respectively, and the numerical value curve of function calculation is shown in the figure. In other words, a color space is a space for computer numeric calculations; the other color space is the space for the display to display the image relationship that fits the human eye.…”

“…The algorithms inspired by the foraging, sweeping lair and other behaviors carried out by social animals to resolve the practical problems receive the remarkable success. The application examples of these algorithms in the fields of combinational optimization, communication network and robot are increased exponentially [5,6,7,8,9]. Bonabeau, et al perceive the swarm intelligence as the algorithm and distributed problem solving equipment inspired by the collective behaviors of social insect group and other animal groups [10].…”
