This study is an exploratory study to assess the possibility to further development of the global HITRAN database, in near future, through examines the collisional broadening of absorption Linewidth of carbon dioxide by nitrogen as a buffer gas (regardless line shifts) as well as to estimate experimentally the coefficient of that broadening at infrared region around a wavelength of 1639.78 nm, employing both Direct Laser Absorption (DLAS), and long optical path spectroscopies with an experimental setup consisting of a tunable diode laser, Herriott multipass cell with an optical path of 30 m, and compatible photodetectors. The obtained results were within the expected range, which confirms the accuracy of our measurements.
