Self-care and quality of life among men with chronic heart failure

Abstract: IntroductionChronic Heart Failure (CHF) involves a complex regimen of daily self-care behaviors: pharmacological therapy, symptom monitoring and lifestyle modifications. Patients with CHF may have a reduced health related quality of life (HRQoL) due to various physical and emotional symptoms. HRQoL may be improved through the use of self-care interventions.PurposeTo assess the level of self-care and quality of life among men with chronic heart failure.MethodsThe study was conducted among 80 men diagnosed with … Show more

“…The proficiency of patient self-management skills is one of the key aspects of heart failure (HF) management. Evidence indicates that individuals diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF) who exhibit elevated levels of self-care demonstrate diminished mortality rates and decreased incidences of hospital readmissions attributable to disease exacerbations (37). In examining the connections between quality of life and self-care, studies have demonstrated that reduced self-care is linked to a decline in overall HRQoL, including both physical and emotional subcomponents.…”

“…The cardiotoxicity caused by TKI might present as hypertension, impaired left ventricular function, and, in severe instances, heart failure. TKI-induced cardiotoxicity is caused by inhibiting tyrosine kinases, which disrupt signaling pathways necessary for maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis [ 29 ]. VEGF inhibition, a frequent mechanism observed in TKIs, can result in compromised endothelial function, hypertension, and heightened vascular resistance, contributing to cardiovascular events.…”

“…Risk factor management entails the management of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia [ 28 ]. Proactively controlling these risk factors frequently and utilizing pharmacological interventions as needed aid in reducing cardiovascular risk and can potentially improve the safety of cancer treatments [ 29 ].…”

“…Specifically, it measures physical, psychological (emotional and cognitive), and social functioning ( Seid, 2020 ). Poor QoL is consistently linked to HF-related outcomes in patients with HF, including higher mortality, frequent hospitalization, and poor self-care adherence ( Molla et al, 2022 ; Seid et al, 2022 ; Wisnicka et al, 2022 ).…”
