Self-cleaned zirconia coatings prepared using a co-precursor sol–gel method

Abstract: The experimental work on the self-cleaned zirconia coatings prepared using a co-precursor sol-gel method is presented here. The zirconia coatings were synthesised using zirconium n-propoxide (ZrPro) precursor and different organosilanes such as trimethyl cholorosilane (TMCS), hexamethyl disilzane (HMDZ) and perfluorodecyl triethoxy silane (FDTES) as coprecursors. The organosilanes have a profound impact in modifying the surfaces making them water repellent. Therefore, the influences of various organosilane co-… Show more

“…Therefore, the research and development of superhydrophobic materials is of great significance to daily life and industrial development. The current method of forming a superhydrophobic surface is to construct a micronano structure on the surface with low surface energy or modify the micronano structure with low surface energy substances. At present, the methods for preparing superhydrophobic surfaces mainly include: the layer-by-layer self-assembly method, spraying method, template method, chemical vapor deposition method, sol–gel method, etching method, spin-coating method, and so on. For example, Chi and others used hydrophobic silicon dioxide particles and organosilane binder to prepare an antireflection coating with mechanical firmness and self-cleaning performance.…”

“…In reality, the CMAS on the surface of TBCs is usually composed of sand, ash and dust, and melts at temperatures of more than 1200°C. Molten CMAS rapidly infiltrates into segmented or columnar TBCs through connected pores or intercolumnar gaps inside the coatings and leads to their premature failure [7]. Moreover, CMAS melts actively react with the YSZ coating and partially dissolve it via the removal of yttrium ions.…”
