Self-Cleaning Polyester Fabric Prepared with TiOF2 and Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane

Abstract: In this study, self-cleaning polyester (PET) fabrics were prepared using TiOF2 and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane(HDS) treatment. TiOF2 was synthesized via direct fluorination of a precursor TiO2 at various reaction temperatures. The prepared PET fabrics had superior photocatalytic self-cleaning properties compared with anatase TiO2/HDS-treated PET fabrics under UV and sunlight with 98% decomposition of methylene blue. TiOF2/HDS-treated PET fabrics also had superior superhydrophobic self-cleaning properties compare… Show more

“…42 In some earlier studies, it is realised that the inclusion of TiO 2 nanoparticle in the bulk of a polymer can catalyse the charring of the same. 43 In the meantime, the application of TiO 2 nanoparticles have been extended to develop self-cleaning properties to varied textile substrates like cotton, [44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52] lyocell, 53 polyester, [54][55][56] wool 56 and polyamide. 57 Meanwhile, the sole application of nano-TiO 2 colloidal solutions offers an enhanced level of hydrophilicity and UV-protection ability to polyamide textiles as well.…”

“…The treatment provided higher peel strength, flexural strength with 7.66 N/mm, 35.41 MPa respectively in the treated PE compositions. [15] Oxygen plasma treatment in PE at a reduced time from 30 s showed significant wettability and surface roughness in the compositions. [9] Carbon fiber (CF) a synthetic fiber is used in the automobile, structural, biomedical and aerospace applications due to its good mechanical properties, electrical conductivity nature, corrosion resistance and good thermal properties.…”

“…At present, there is a large amount of research concerned with the preparation of self-cleaning fibers or textiles [1][2][3][4]. Textiles with self-cleaning properties can be divided into three categories, and they are the physical self-cleaning, chemical self-cleaning and biological self-cleaning types [5].…”
