Self-consistent, global, neoclassical radial-electric-field calculations of electron-ion-root transitions in the W7-X stellarator

Abstract: The radial electric field in the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator is computed by means of self-consistent, global, neoclassical simulations using the gyrokinetic particle-in-cell code EUTERPE. The simulation results are compared with local predictions obtained from a transport code using locally computed neoclassical transport coefficients.
