Self‐Powered Multifunctional Triboelectric Sensor Based on PTFE/PU for Linear, Rotary, and Vibration Motion Sensing

Abstract: Sensors used in the Internet of Things (IoT) should be cost‐effective and easy to maintain. Triboelectric sensors made of polymers have good development prospects. Herein, a self‐powered multifunctional motion sensor (MMS) is proposed to sense the speed, acceleration, and direction of linear and rotational motions, and detect the frequency of vibration. The MMS comprises a polyurethane (PU) ball encapsulated in a 3D‐printed cylindrical shell, the inner walls of which are lined with Cu electrodes coated with a … Show more

“…The metal–PTFE–metal structure is fabricated on an etched PET film, consisting of pressure and temperature sensing parts. The pressure sensing is achieved based on the triboelectric effect of the PTFE film. The Cu layer deposited on the etched PET surface acts as the bottom electrode, while the Cu pad on the PTFE film is used as the top electrode. Similar to the triboelectric nanogenerator, a potential is created under pressure stimuli due to the charge transfer between PTFE film and substrate that exhibit opposite tribo-polarity .…”
