Self-tuning fuzzy PID controller for electro-hydraulic cylinder

Abstract: Hydraulic systems are widely used in industrial applications. This is due to its high speed of response with fast start, stop and speed reversal possible. The torque to inertia ratio is also large with resulting high acceleration capability. The nonlinear properties of hydraulic cylinder make the position tracking control design challenging. This paper presents the development and implementation of self-tuning fuzzy PID controller in controlling the position variation of electrohydraulic actuator. The hydrauli… Show more

“…In the ZN approach, simple formulas for PID controller settings are expressed in terms of ultimate gain K u and ultimate period T u of the process. The disadvantages of experimentally determining the critical parameters are that the system can be brought to a state of instability [15,16]. To overcome these problems, gradient descent optimization is applied to tune these parameters and was done by simulation.…”

“…Hybridization of these two controller structures comes to mind to exploit the beneficial sides of both categories [15,[20][21]. Otherwise, the trend nowadays is to implement hybrid systems consisting of more than one type of control technique to design a controller that is robust against parameter variations and lead to better performances [22]. Various hybrid controller structures have arisen in literature for various applications such as to control steam distillation process for essential oil extraction system [15], position control of a slider cranks manipulator [19], control manipulator and stoker-fired boiler show the effectiveness and robustness of the hybrid fuzzy [23].…”
