Semaglutide for weight loss in people with obesity as an adjunctive treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa: its impact on disease control and quality of life

Abstract

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has a significant impact on quality of life and mortality. We report the use of semaglutide and its impact on disease control and quality of life in 30 obese patients in a HS specialty clinic. This retrospective data suggests that the addition of semaglutide to standard HS therapies results in improvement in quality of life and less flares of HS. The retrospective nature of the study is a limitation. Placebo-controlled randomised clinical trials should be done in hidradenitis suppurativa to assess the efficacy of semaglutide in this debilitating condition.
