Semantic Annotation of Unstructured Documents Using Concepts Similarity

Abstract: There is a large amount of information in the form of unstructured documents which pose challenges in the information storage, search, and retrieval. This situation has given rise to several information search approaches. Some proposals take into account the contextual meaning of the terms specified in the query. Semantic annotation technique can help to retrieve and extract information in unstructured documents. We propose a semantic annotation strategy for unstructured documents as part of a semantic search … Show more

“…This is the process that creates semantic labels of documents for the SW aiming to establish relations between pieces of annotated data. The semantic annotation plays an important role in a variety of semantic applications, such as the generation of linked data, extraction of information, advanced searching (based on concepts), and reasoning regarding web sources (Pech et al 2017). Currently, there are a few semantic annotation use cases that are potentially useful for journalists, such as the Concretely Annotated New York Times schema, which provides layers of annotation for over 1.8 million of its published articles (Ferraro Francis et al 2014).…”

“…Ontologies take a central role in the context of the Semantic Web, since they are suited for data integration and sharing not only on human-level or human-machinecommunication, but also in machine-machine-interaction. A common application is semantic annotation of unstructured documents [12]. The semantic enrichment of unstructured content enables the application of semantic search, which means searching beyond keywords and thus improving the retrieval of queries.…”
