Semi-empirical equation for the estimation of viscosity of liquid metal alloys of eutectic composition

Abstract: In this work the dynamic viscosity of liquid metal alloys of eutectic composition is investigated. In particular a semi empirical equation, previously proposed for some pure metals, is now tested to estimate the viscosity of liquid metal alloys. Analysis is limited by three materials that have been evaluated by a recent care ful analysis by Assael and co workers: Al-Si, Pb-Bi, and Pb-Sn of eutectic composition. The equation pro posed shows a satisfactory agreement with the accredited data available in literatu… Show more

“…Once the accurate viscosity is predicted, the reliable tracer diffusivity can be evaluated by the Stokes-Einstein or Sutherland-Einstein relation. Several viscosity models in liquid alloys have been proposed in the literature, and each one is only valid in specific systems [57,58]. The comprehensive comparisons between the experimental viscosities and the data predicted from different semi-empirical models indicate that the Kozlov model can be adopted to predict the reasonable viscosity data in alloy melts [14].…”
