Semiconductive Nature of Lead-Based Metal–Organic Frameworks with Three-Dimensionally Extended Sulfur Secondary Building Units

Abstract: Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) composed of sulfur secondary building units (sulfur-SBUs) have attracted significant attention as unique electronic materials with high conductivities and photo- and electrocatalytic properties. Herein we report the crystal structure of KGF-1, an example of a Pb-MOF composed of three-dimensionally extended sulfur-SBUs that displays molecular sieving behavior, visible-light absorption, and a semiconductor band structure and is a hydrogen-evolution photocatalyst.

“…Owing to the electrodeless measurement of the local motions of charge carriers, laser-flash TRMC has been extensively used in liquid crystalline materials [55,[70][71][72], self-assembled nanostructures [50,60,[73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80], microcrystals [52,56,[81][82][83][84], and liquids/gels [85][86][87][88], which are often associated with difficulties in preparing high-quality films suitable for device characterization, such as a fieldeffect transistor (FET). Although one can prepare a smooth film of a conjugated polymer, the φ value of its pristine film is very small (10 −5 -10 −3 ) and unable to be determined solely by TRMC measurements.…”

“…30 Incidentally, with careful metal/linker selection, even single crystals of functional semiconductive metal-thiolate networks can be accessed, facilitating structure-property relation studies in these well-defined samples. 31,32 For future work, one can couple the intriguing metaldithiolene motif 33,34 to the bifunctional, two step synthesis, i.e., in the form of carboxyl-dithiolene combination. Of particular interest would be a carboxylic linker equipped with two or more dithiolene units, because these would then take up metal guests to afford dithiolene-metal networks intersecting with, e.g., the Zr(IV)-carboxyl host net.…”
