Sensitive analysis of ground recharge estimation model, for semiarid areas

Abstract: The rapid demographic evolution wields a big pressure on water resources potentialities; in addition, the climate change effects have influenced the natural renovation rate of water resources around the world. Starting from a previous published model, a sensitive analysis was established after introducing three parameters as watershed topography, stream network density and geology index to illustrate the impact of each of these parameters on the rate of groundwater recharge. This modified model has been improv… Show more

“…Another study developed in Saudi Arabia about groundwater recharge was of Zaigham et al (2020), and the authors verified that the shape of the Al-Abwa watershed is eastward-convex semi-rectangular, indicating a higher time of concentration, resulting, according to them, in more water infiltration of the rainwater as compared to evaporation and runoff. Rahmani et al (2018) introduced some parameters in a model that aims to help water resources managers in semiarid areas to evaluate the annual rate of aquifer recharge to control the abstraction of water and manage water more rationally. The authors included watershed topography, stream network density, and geology index and established a sensitive analysis to illustrate the impact of each of these parameters on the rate of groundwater recharge.…”

“…Groundwater recharge depends on several factors, including the geologic area, its topography, and the hydroclimatic conditions of the area. Generally, the largest part of the rainfall over a catchment returns to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration [20]. Within a catchment area, three forms of recharge contribute to the recharge process: localized recharge (joints, depressions, rivulets), indirect recharge (rivers), and direct recharge (precipitation) (Figure 4).…”
