Sensitive flow-injection chemiluminescence determination of terbutaline sulfate based on enhancement of the luminol?permanganate reaction

Abstract: A novel and highly sensitive chemiluminescence (CL) method for the determination of terbutaline sulfate, coupled with flow-injection analysis (FIA), is described in this paper. The method is based on enhancement by terbutaline sulfate of the chemiluminescence emission of the luminol-permanganate system under alkaline conditions. Under the conditions selected the concentration of terbutaline sulfate is proportional to CL intensity in the range 5 x 10(-10)-5 x 10(-7) g mL(-1), with a detection limit of 1.7 x 10(… Show more

“…In order to explore the possible CL mechanism, the CL spectra and the UV–vis spectra were examined, and the results are shown in Figures (a) and (b), respectively. As shown in Figure , the CL spectra of the luminol–KMnO 4 –CD and the luminol–KMnO 4 –CD–isonaphthol systems were similar to that of the luminol–KMnO 4 system and the maximum emission was at 425 nm, indicating that the luminophore was the excited state 3‐aminophthalate anions (3‐APA*, oxidation product of luminol), and not the emission band of CDs ( λ em = 465–560 nm) or the maximum emission wavelength of isonaphthol ( λ em = 352 nm) . The enhanced CL signal was thus ascribed to the possible catalysis by CDs or sensitization of isonaphthol.…”

“…Aiming to further enhance the CdTe QDs induced CL intensity; we introduced CdTe QDs-IgG bioconjugates into luminol-H 2 O 2 CL system. Luminol is an extremely versatile and widely used CL reagent, which readily produces CL when reacting with strong oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide [33], hypochlorite [34] and potassium permanganate [35]. In this paper, chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (CRET) was found to occur between CdTe QDs-IgG bioconjugates and luminol.…”

“…proposed the FIA-CL system of KMnO 4 -NaOH for the determination of isoniazid. Huertas-Pérez et al [11] and Wang et al [12] reported the application of KMnO 4 -luminol system in alkaline media. The decomposition of MnO 4  to MnO 4 2 in alkaline media is a common reaction.…”
