BACKGROUND: Exposure to cigarette smoke is one risk factor that can lead to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). AIM: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between smoking and the stage of COPD. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 60 COPD patients were involved in the study between September and November 2015 at the pulmonary ward of Zainoel Abidin General Hospital (ZAGH), Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The data were analyzed with the non-parametric bivariate test. RESULTS: The results showed that 55% of patients with COPD were aged between 40 and 60 years; 63.33% of them were heavy smokers. About 50% of moderate smokers suffered from Stage III COPD, while 34.21% of heavy smokers suffered from Stage III and Stage VI (severe) COPD, respectively, with p = 0.007. CONCLUSIONS: There is a strong relationship between smoking and COPD stage among patients at ZAGH.

This paper aims to evaluate the students' ability to solve syntactic problems through creative thinking, when they are engaged in Search, Solve, Create and Share (SSCS) learning, using schoology apps. For this purpose, several fourth-semester students were selected as subjects of an essay test, a structured interview and an observation. The test reveals their metacognitive awareness in solving syntax problems, the interview reflects their errors and causes of such errors, and the observation shows their conditions in SSCS learning using schoology apps. The data validity was checked through triangulation of data sources. The results show that the students, who are good at solving syntax problems in schoology apps through creative thinking, have high level of metacognitive awareness, and are able to make reflective use and strategic use of metacognitive awareness.

AbstrakTujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat dengan tema budidaya tanaman hias ini adalah agar para santri memahami dan mengetahui sekaligus bisa mempraktekan perbanyakan tanaman hias dengan vegetatif dan generatif, budidaya tanaman hias dengan media hidrogel dan terarrium. Metode yang diterapkan pada pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah dengan pemberian informasi atau materi, diskusi, tentang budidaya tanaman hias, kemudian dilakukan tahapan simulasi dan praktik budidaya tanaman hias dengan vegetatif dan generatif, budidaya tanaman hias dengan media hidrogel dan terarrium. Ada tiga tahapan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini, yaitu (1) Prakegiatan, diisi dengan pemberian materi dan diskusi tentang perbanyakan tanaman hias dengan vegetatif dan generatif, serta budidaya tanaman hias dengan media hidrogel dan terarrium. ; (2) Pelaksanaan kegiatan, meliputi praktik budidaya tanaman hias serta budidaya tanaman hias dengan terarrium dan hidrogel. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa santri tampak antusias mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan perbanyakan tanaman, baik saat pemberian materi ataupun praktek secara langsung. Acara sejenis dapat dilanjutkan dengan tema yang lain sehingga akan meningkatkan minat santri pada dunia tanaman. Pelatihan ini juga akan meningkatkan hard skill santri yang akan menjadi bekal para santri ketika sudah lulus dari pondok pesantren. Kata kunci: Tanaman hias, hidrogel, terarrium AbstractThe purpose of people empowerment with the theme of ornamental plant cultivation is to enable the students to understand and know at once can practice multiplication of plants by vegetative and generative, ornamental plant cultivation with the hydrogel and terarrium media. The method applied in this people empowerment are provision of information or material, discussions on the cultivation of ornamental plants, then do simulations and practice stages ornamental plants with vegetative and generative, ornamental plant cultivation with the hydrogel and terarrium media. There are three stages in this community service activities, namely (1) Preactivity, filled with the provision of material and discussion of the propagation of ornamental plants with vegetative and generative, as well as ornamental plant cultivation with the hydrogel and terarrium media. ;(2) The implementation of activities, including the practice of ornamental plants and ornamental plants with terarrium and hydrogel. It can be concluded that the students seemed enthusiastic following plant propagation training activities, both when giving direct material or practices. A similar event may be followed by another theme that will increase the interest of students in the plant world. This training will also increase the hard skills that students will be equipped when the students had graduated from boarding school.
