Sensitivity and Specificity of Various Serological Tests for Detection of Brucella spp. Infection in Male Goats and Sheep

Abstract: Brucellosis is a zoonosis found throughout the world with major implications both in the field of public health and farming economy. It is most often caused by Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis. This study aimed for evaluation of the sensitivity and specificity of immunochromatographic assay (ICA) and comparing the results with those obtained from Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and in direct Enzyme Linked Immunsorbent Assay (ELISA) for serodiagnosis of sheep and goat brucellosis. Out of 41 sera samples (… Show more

“…Serological tests are useful for screening large size herds, very easy to perform, convenient and cheap. Nevertheless, cross-reactions with non-specific antibodies may generate false positive results (Ahmed et al, 2016). Molecular diagnostic methods have considerably reduced this type of risk and are the most reliable tools in terms of sensitivity and specificity (Leyla et al, 2003).…”

“…Numerous surveillances have reported a higher prevalence in males compared to females (Ahmed et al, 2016;Alrodhan, 2017 andAbdelbaset et al, 2018). The increased incidence of infection in males could be attributed to their regular movement, such as during grazing, trading activities, or mating.…”
