Sensitivity of Heterotrophic Bacteria in the Low-Salinity Water Areas and Estuary in Siak District toward Pathogenic Bacteria in Fish

Abstract: The high rate of bacterial diseases in fishes and shrimps has lead scientists seek for natural antibiotic products that would act as a solution. An example of this product is the secondary metabolic products from heterotrophic bacteria. These bacteria could easily be found in many water regions and estuaries, including the Siak District, Riau, Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims at determining the ability of bacterial isolates in inhibiting the growth of pathogens (Vibrio alginolyticus, Aeromonas hydrophila,… Show more

“…The fact is that WPCBs have an alkaline nature resulting in the release of alkaline compounds ( Rasoulnia et al, 2021 ). Since heterotrophic bacteria produce organic acid due to carbon consumption, this leads to a decrease in the medium pH ( Feliatra et al, 2019 ; Mei et al., 2021 ). Yet, the amount produced organic acids in this study was not enough to neutralize the alkalinity of e-waste.…”

“…The electrophoresis was done for 45 min in a 1X TBE (Tris Borate EDTA) buffer. The bands were then seen on a UV transilluminator (Vilber Lourmat) and recorded with an Olympus SP 500-UZ digital camera with a UV filter (Feliatra et al 2019). Furthermore, using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) (http://blast.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Blast.html), the sequencing results were compared to known sequences in the GenBank database.…”

“…It took 45 µl of electrophoresis in a concentration of 1X TBE (Tris Borate EDTA) buffer to separate the two groups. Following that, a UV transilluminator (Vilber Lourmat) and a UV-filtered digital camera were used to see and record the bands (Olympus SP 500-UZ) (Feliatra et al, 2019).…”
