CO 2 Capture Technology -from Research to Large Scale Industrial OperationThe development of post-combustion capture from laboratory scale up to large scale industrial operation is discussed. The technology development starts with the physico-chemical scientific basis and will lead to plants with dimensions larger than those currently in operation. It is separated into a laboratory phase, a mini plant phase, a pilot plant phase and a demonstration plant phase. The research activities and results are discussed in detail for each phase. With the steps taken until now, the energy demand was reduced by 20 % compared to the standard solvent monoethanolamine. Future improvements are expected through ongoing research both in terms of a reduced energy demand and in terms of an improved plant design.
