Sensitization to cat and dog allergen molecules in childhood and prediction of symptoms of cat and dog allergy in adolescence: A BAMSE/MeDALL study

Abstract: Sensitization to Fel d 1 and Can f 1 in childhood and polysensitization to either cat or dog allergen molecules predict cat and dog allergy cross-sectionally and longitudinally significantly better than IgE to cat or dog extract.

“…More than 80% of asthmatic children are sensitized to at least one indoor allergen [107], and IgE sensitization to house dust mite allergens, pests (cockroach and rodents), pets (dogs and cats), and mold is strongly associated with asthma development [106,107,[111][112][113]. Given these facts, measurement of IgE responses to perennial allergens is a major focus for asthma diagnosis and prediction (Table 2a).…”

“…The ISAC 112 platform provides a minimally invasive, rapid and efficient means of testing IgE sensitizations to a broad panel of allergen components [3], and has been used as an aid in the diagnosis and risk assessment of allergic patients [20][21][22][23][24][25], to predict allergic symptoms as well as for prescription and monitoring of immunotherapy [26][27][28][29][30], sensitization profiling [31][32][33][34], and for the study of allergic diseases [16,[35][36][37].…”
