Sensor Modeling and Calibration Method Based on Extinction Ratio Error for Camera-Based Polarization Navigation Sensor

Abstract: The performance of camera-based polarization sensors largely depends on the estimated model parameters obtained through calibration. Limited by manufacturing processes, the low extinction ratio and inconsistency of the polarizer can reduce the measurement accuracy of the sensor. To account for the challenges, one extinction ratio coefficient was introduced into the calibration model to unify the light intensity of two orthogonal channels. Since the introduced extinction ratio coefficient is associated … Show more

“…[ 44,45 ] The division‐of‐focal‐plane polarization sensor such as the Sony camera contains four wire grid directions including 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° to compute the physical information. [ 46 ] Thus, we perform the 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° linear polarization imaging at 3.7 and 11.0 µm to mimic the same resolution four‐pixel imaging, demonstrating the broadband polarization imaging capability without a filter (Figure 5b,c). These imaging results suggest that the single pixel Nb 2 GeTe 4 /MoS 2 photodetector is adequate for the actual requirements for detecting the Stokes parameters.…”

“…Yang [25], [26] introduced the coupling coefficient into the error model of the point-source polarization sensor to solve the problem of optical path coupling. Ren [27] introduced extinction ratio coefficient into the image-based polarization sensor model to unify the incident light intensity of two orthogonal channels, which improved the accuracy of the error parameters. Wan [28] further considered the influence of the main point error of the polarization camera, and established the error model based on Stokes vector.…”

“…It is generally used to analyze the accuracy of system parameter estimation [14]- [16]. Common methods include PWCS (Piece-Wise Constant System) theory [17] and the SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) method. This paper mainly uses the above observable analysis method to analyze and evaluate the accuracy of error parameter estimation in the integrated INS/PS navigation system.…”
