Separate Calculation of Glomerular and Tubular Clearance by Means of Renal Scintigraphy with Hippuran and DTPA

Abstract: A simplified method of renal scintigraphy carried out with 1311-Hippuran and 99mTc-DTPA diethylenetriaminopentacetate is described in man. Results were expressed as tubular clearance (with Hippuran) and glomerular clearance (with DTPA) per kidney, and compared to PAH and inulin clearances measured in the same patients. There was a close positive correlation between clearances calculated by means of renal scintigraphy and those measured by standard procedure for studying renal function. Th… Show more

“…Dynamic curves of W mTc-DTPA and l5ll-hippurate were obtained separately. G FR was calculated from the renal elimination capacity of " T c -D T P A and ERPF from that of l3lI-hippurate according to the method of Hadj Aissa et al [4], These methods were validated by comparison with creatinine and para-aminohippurate clearances obtained under identical conditions in 25 subjects whose serum creatinine levels were found to be below 2.0 mg/dl in our facility. The correlation between the elimination capacity of WmTc-DTPA calculated by this method and the measured creatinine clearance was y = 3.4032x +18.8323 ( r =0.84, p < 0.001, n = 25), error of a was 0.400, error of b was 28.968, and variation was 47.8782 (p < 0.001).…”
