In efforts to develop a novel low-cost and eco-friendly organic solvent, namely, palm kernel fatty acid distillate (PKFAD), with free fatty acids (FFAs) as the active components, for Cu(II) extraction from acidic sulfate media, this work aimed to gain insight into the stoichiometry of Cu(II)-FFA complexes (extracted species) in PKFAD and their extraction thermodynamics. The former was explored by both the equilibrium slope and numerical analyses, while the latter was determined from the extraction of Cu(II) by PKFAD at different temperatures. Both the equilibrium slope and numerical analyses revealed that the stoichiometry of Cu(II)-FFA complexes in PKFAD was 1:6, whereas the thermodynamic study indicated that Cu(II) extraction by PKFAD was exothermic, nonspontaneous, and enthalpy-driven over the temperature range studied. A plausible structure of Cu(II)-FFA complexes in PKFAD was also postulated based on the thermodynamic data obtained.

The non-linear equation of the radial oscillations of a liquid ball in an immiscible liquid under the exposure of time-varying sound pressure was obtained. The behavioral features of a liquid spherical drop placed in such a media were analyzed in the presence of ultrasound irradiations. The slowing-down effect of the extracted metal ions under its exposure has been studied for the first time, using theoretical and experimental approaches. This phenomenon mechanism was revealed, and analytical equations for the mass transfer rate as a function of the sound pressure oscillations amplitude and the substrate ultrasonic treatment time are presented. Experimental studies of Fe3+ ions extracted from chloride and nitrate solutions in systems based on water-soluble polymers were carried out, and a convincing coincidence with the results of theoretical calculations was established. The conditions for achieving the desired extraction efficiency when applying the ultrasonic stimulating effect are specified. The derived result opens the complementary possibility in operations, with the separateness of extraction processes, that which has the essential practical importance.

This work aimed to determine the significant factors that provide great impacts on the efficiency of synergistic extraction of Cd, Cu and Ni from mixed synthetic aqueous solutions with mixture of extractants, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) by using two-level fractional factorial design. Six factors affecting the synergistic extraction consisted of mixing time (t), concentration of D2EHPA [D2EHPA], concentration of TBP [TBP], concentration of sodium sulphate [Na 2 SO 4 ], equilibrium pH (pH eq) and organic to aqueous ratio (O:A) were examined. Results from the application of 2 6-1 fractional factorial design showed that [D2EHPA], O:A and interaction of D2EHPA with TBP ([D2EHPA] × [TBP]) have significantly influenced the extraction percentage (E%) for Cd and Cu.
