Iron ferrite particles prepared by the wet method was applied for partitioning cations of a simulated high level liquid waste into four groups by means of magnetic filtration. The sample solution prepared by slight denitration with formic acid of 2.5 ~>I nitric acid solution containing more than 25 metallic ions to the pH of about 0.8 was used after centrifugation to remove precipitates of Zr, Mo and Te ions. The separation of ions into each group was basically carried out by producing precipitates such as hydroxides or carbonates in presence of ferrite particles at a pH controlled with ammonium hydroxide, retaining in the magnetic separation column as a mixture with ferrite particles. and re-dissolving only precipitates trapped in the column with 0.1 ~~ nitric acid under keeping the magnetic field. The ferrite particles left in the column were also recovered for reuse by rinsing with diluted nitric acid after switching off the field. The obtained results revealed that the iron ferrite additive worked well on recovering the precipitates from the solution with the aid of a moderate magnetic field and enables the process consisting of four steps to partition the simulant ions into four groups.
