Separation of Magnesium Isotopes by Chemical Exchange with Manganese (IV) Oxide

Abstract: Separation of magnesium isotopes was investigated by chemical ion exchange with manganese (IV) oxide using an elution chromatographic technique. The capacity of manganese (IV) oxide ion exchanger was 0.5 meq/g. The heavier isotopes of magnesium were concentrated in the manganese oxide phase, while the lighter isotopes were enriched in the solution phase. The glass ion exchange column used in our experiment was 35 cm long with inner diameter of 0.2 cm, and 1.0 M CH 3 COONH 4 solution was used as an eluent. The … Show more

“…As an example of the permselective membrane, MnO 2 a strong oxidant has been tested to get rid of interference signals in glucose sensing by Choi et al [130]. The IEP of MnO 2 is quite low (4–5) at pH ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 but at higher pH, MnO 2 showed favorable environment for the immobilization of biomolecules [131,132]. …”

“…For the determination of the distribution coefficient, batch method was employed [16,17]. The experimental conditions for measurement of the distribution coefficient are: 1 g of the sorbent and 100 cm 3 of the solution are periodically shaken for reaching of steady state conditions (5 d) at constant temperature.…”
