“…However, in addition to memory B cells, nylon wool also specifically retains AFC's and macrophages (Handwerger and Schwartz, 1974). These latter two cell populations can be depleted selectively from cell suspensions by Sephadex G-10 fractionation (Ly and Mishell, 1974).…”

“…As the AFC has been implicated in the adoptive transfer of immunity to Plasmodium berghei infections in mice (Gravely and Kreier, 1976), its possible role in the protection against B. microti infections observed after the transfer of immune spleen cells was investigated. Separation of spleen cells on Sephadex G-10 columns has been shown to specifically remove AFC's together with macrophages (Ly and Mishell, 1974). Therefore, Sephadex G-10 adherent and non-adherent immune spleen cells were tested for their protective effect after transfer.…”

“…Spleen cells from in vivo primed mice were depleted of B cells and adherent cells (APC) by a double pas sage through Sephadex G-10 columns (Pharmacia Fine Chemicals, Uppsala, Sweden) (Ly et al, 1974) followed by a nylonwool passage (Scrubbed Nylon Fiber, Ferwall Laboratories, Deerfield, IL, USA) as described by Kast et al, (1988). FACS analysis showed that the responder cells con tained > 70% T cells (data not shown).…”

“…Mononuclear cells were separated from fresh heparinized venous blood and fresh heparinized bone marrow aspirates by FicollPaque (Pharmacial Fine Chemicals Inc., Uppsala, Sweden) density gradient centrifugation (Boyum 1968). Monocytes were removed by passing the mononuclear cells through a Sephadex G-10 column (Pharmacia Fine Chemicals Inc., Piscataway, N.J., USA) according to the method of Ly and Mishell (1974). Separation of monocyte-depleted mononuclear cells into E-rosette forming cells and non-E-rosette forming cells was carried out by rosetting with neuraminidase-treated sheep erythrocytes (SRBC) (Weiner et al 1973).…”
