Sepsis Induced by Cecal Ligation and Puncture

Abstract: Summary Despite advances in intensive care unit interventions, including the use of specific antibiotics and anti-inflammation treatment, sepsis with concomitant multiple organ failure is the most common cause of death in many acute care units. In order to understand the mechanisms of clinical sepsis and develop effective therapeutic modalities, there is a need to use effective experimental models that faithfully replicate what occurs in patients with sepsis. Several models are commonly used to study sepsis, i… Show more

“…The animal model of CLP developed hypotension and tachycardia as typically seen in human septic shock [ 27 , 28 ]. In the present study, the infusion of LS increased pulse pressure in sham- and CLP-treated rats, suggesting this is due to its positive inotropic effects.…”

“…To induce polymicrobial sepsis, we used an established murine model of CLP as previously described. [12][13][14] The mice were an aesthetised with sodium pentobarbital (100 mg kg À1 , intraperitoneal). The peritoneum was opened, and the bowel was exposed.…”
