“…Complications include intraocular inflammation, pigment dispersion, mechanical damage to the trabecular meshwork, secondary angle closure, elevated IOP, glaucoma, uveitis-glaucomahyphema syndrome, decreased endothelial cell count, corneal edema, corneal decompensation, early cataract formation, and macular edema. [2][3][4][5][6] Several patients have required subsequent surgical interventions including corneal transplantation, glaucoma filtration surgery, goniosynechiolysis, pars plana vitrectomy, and cataract extraction. Complications have been noted as early as 2 weeks and as late as several years after implantation.…”

“…She was treated with oral and topical IOP lowering agents and advised to have implant removal. Comment Prior to this, there were cases of ocular morbidity following New Colour iris implants TM [1][2][3]. These are cosmetic iris implants which to the best of our knowledge are only performed in Panama.…”

“…These are cosmetic iris implants which to the best of our knowledge are only performed in Panama. The problems with these specific implants are now well documented and the largest case series in the literature [1] included the following complications: corneal decompensation, uveitis, hyphaema, glaucoma, cataract and intraoperative subprachoroidal haemorrhage during implant explantation [2]. Other secondary surgical interventations were subsequently required in isolated cases, including descemet-stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty, penetrating keratoplasty, cataract surgery, trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage implantation.…”
