“…Re-maturation occurred at AB group found in this experiment showed that the lost of eye stalk caused an inhibiting production of GIH which lead to a continuously maturation process. This phenomenon supported the previous study by Wongprasert et al (2006) who reported that ablated tiger shrimp can mature and spawn three times continously with a trend of decreasing significantly the hatching rate and survival of nauplii.…”

“…This is indicated that hormonal change caused by ablation has different effects on each individual male tiger shrimp. Optic lobe located at eye stalk which was not completely destroyed during ablation was suspected to still produce GIH to some extend so that inhibition of gonadal maturation still occurred (Wongprasert et al, 2006). In contrast, spermatophore maturation in OD0.5 and OD1.0 happened simultaneously and required shorter period within 7 days.…”

“…However, reduced reproductive performance in aquacultures of black tiger shrimp has caused economic losses and hampered the fishing industry (Wen et al, 2015). In general, unilateral eyestalk ablation is used to induce P. monodon ovarian maturation, but this technique can lead to the death of parent shrimp and lower spawning quality (Benzie, 1998;Wongprasert et al, 2006;Phinyo et al, 2014). Therefore, the examination of alternative approaches is imperative.…”

“…A similar response was reported by FERREIRA et al (2005) studying A. platensis fed for 15 days on a high-carbohydrate or highprotein diet in controlled laboratory conditions. Several studies have evaluated maturation, eye ablation (SAGI et al, 1997;WONGPRASERT et al, 2006), use of hormones (ABDU et al, 2001), fecundity (KING, 1993), and reproductive cycle (SERRANO-PINTO et al, 2004) of the redclaw crayfish under laboratory conditions. Different diets have been used in these studies.…”
