Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Measurement in a Large Population Survey with Statistical Harmonization of Assay Variation to an International Standard

Abstract: Differences between assays have implications for public health messages about hypovitaminosis D. Harmonization of results with DEQAS enabled the use of previously determined cutoffs for hypovitaminosis D.

“…Thrailkill et al (34) found increased urinary excretion of vitamin D binding protein (DBP) in type 1 diabetes patients presenting with albuminuria. This recent finding suggests that reduced levels of 25-OHD might be explained in part by urinary loss of DBP or increased catabolism of vitamin D (34,35). The mechanisms responsible for these lower levels requires further study and are important to undertake given that lower levels of vitamin D are known to contribute to osteoporosis, a late complications of diabetes and diabetic cardiovascular and renal disease (36e38).…”

“…Serum 25(OH)D concentrations were measured using an automated IDS OCTEIA ELISA with a Dade-Behring BEP2000 analyzer, standardized according to the mean vitamin D external quality assessment scheme (32). Serum IGF-1 concentration was measured using the Nichols Advantage IGF-1 chemiluminescence immunoassay referenced against World Health Organization 1st International Reference Reagent 1988; IGF-1 87/518.…”

“…Программа присуждает сертифи-кат качества, если целевая производительность ла-боратории соответствовала нахождению 80% всех результатов в диапазоне ± 30% от ALTM, что в 2013 г. было достигнуто только 59% лабораторий [79,80]. Таким образом, одним из путей может быть полу-чение статистического фактора коррекции между методами [81].…”
