Serum adipokines and HIV viral replication in patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy

Abstract: The present study reported higher TNF-alpha serum levels in patients with persistent HIV viral load. We found no statistically significant correlations between adiponectin, leptin, resistin and IL-6 and HIV viral load in our Caucasian HIV-positive study population, undergoing antiretroviral therapy.

“…This fungus survives even if the milk is treated at a temperature of 74°C for 15 seconds or at 64°C for 30 minutes, but complete destruction of the organism is possible when the milk is heated at 66°C for 30 minutes. Other fungal species such as Nocardia brasiliensis, Candida tropicalis, 35 Candida albicans 36 or Candida krusei 37 have also been shown to cause bovine mastitis and therefore can be transmitted to humans through incorrectly processed milk, posing a threat of fungal infection 38 particularly in immunodepressed patients (for example in case of diabetes, 39 HIV-positive patients with decreased CD4 count, [40][41][42][43][44] patients with cirrhosis 45 or with chronic alcohol consumption). 46…”

“…This test uses a mixture of 14 peptides representing ESAT-6, CFP-10 and a part of TB7.7. A recent study has compared QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube, T-SPOT.TB and tuberculin skin test (TST) in 373 HIV-infected patients, 54,55 reporting that IGRAs were more sensitive than TST for the diagnosis of M tuberculosis infection in this category of patients. Ramos et al propose dual sequential testing with both TST and IGRAs as the optimal approach for latent tuberculosis infection screening in this population.…”

“…Given this unique background, and the patients’ history of over 20 years of HIV infection [3], we performed a study to check for renal impairment and bone demineralization in patients monitored for HIV infection in one Romanian HIV reference center in Bucharest [4], in order to design individualized therapeutic approaches and updated guidelines for screening and management in this particular patient population [5, 6]. …”
