Serum Levels of Asymmetric Dimethylarginine, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, and Nitric Oxide Metabolite Levels in Preeclampsia Patients

Abstract: Background. Hypertensive disorder generally complicates 5–10 percent of all pregnancies. Angiogenic growth factors may be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction of preeclampsia. Therefore, in this study we attempted to determine the serum levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and nitric oxide (NO) metabolite (nitrite) in preeclampsia patients and compared the levels with those obtained from normal pregnant women. Methods. Ninety pregnant women (19–33 years o… Show more

“…Upon tea (black tea and green tea) incubation, the expression of asymmetric dimethyl arginine was decreased considerably in preeclamptic placental trophoblast. Marjan et al, (30) has reported that asymmetric dimethyl arginine is an anti-angiogenic factor that reduces vascular endothelial growth factor expression in endothelial cells and prevents the formation of nitric oxide from nitric oxide synthase, which fits our data. Asymmetric dimethyl arginine affects the growth factors at their production and activity level.…”

“…272 Clinical studies have shown increased 273 or decreased 274277 plasma nitrite levels in preeclamptic compared with normal pregnant women. Also, urinary nitrite levels may not differ in preeclamptic versus normal pregnant women.…”

“…Clinical studies have shown conflicting results, reporting increased (Noorbakhsh et al, 2013) or decreased (Schiessl et al, 2006; Ehsanipoor et al, 2013; Eleuterio et al, 2013; Pimentel et al, 2013) serum and plasma nitrite levels in PE compared with Norm-Preg women. Other studies have shown a decrease in serum levels of nitrites in PE during the first trimester that normalizes in the third trimester (Matsubara et al, 2010).…”
